WHY YOGA?

Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It involves a combination of physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote overall health and well-being. Practicing yoga regularly has been shown to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and cardiovascular health. It can also reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, while increasing mindfulness, inner peace, and joy. Adding yoga to your daily routine can be a powerful tool for improving your physical, mental, and spiritual health.

In 2007 I suffered a serious back injury that put me in a wheelchair and ultimately a hospital bed. After surgery, my doctor recommended I stop running but continue increasing my core strength to avoid another injury. That's when I discovered yoga.

 

My practice did not become serious, however, until 2018, when I became the victim of a sexual predator. This trauma not only affected my physical health, but my mental health as well. I found yoga provided a spiritual peace and healing that religion could not. I have been a devout practitioner ever since.

My retirement in June of 2024 provided a new opportunity. As an educator for 25 years, I now seek other ways to use my education and passion for teaching. When my yoga studio offered a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course, I signed up. The course runs for six weekends, beginning September through December, and I'm super excited to share this journey with you.
